Created by Mulliner, Bentley’s in house bespoke division and the longest standing coachbuilder in the world, the Batur Convertible follows the exquisitely hand-crafted Bacalar barchetta and Batur coupe. With the Batur Convertible, Mulliner continues its long tradition of crafting truly individual cars, tailored to the wishes of each of its extraordinary clients.<br/><br/>The Batur Convertible furthers the innovative design DNA introduced by its coupe sibling that will ultimately guide the design of Bentley’s future cars. The Batur Convertible retains the most powerful version of Bentley’s iconic W12, with a 750 PS, hand-assembled 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged engine that has metaphorically and literally powered Bentley’s success for the last two decades. With the engine to finish production this summer, the Batur Convertible will be one of the last ever Bentleys to use this incredible powertrain.<br/><br/>Bespoke two-seat grand touring<br/>Bentley has a rich history of open-cockpit cars, from the very first Bentley of 1919, through the company’s foundation years in the 1920s, to the most recent - the Bacalar. The architecture of the Batur Convertible has allowed Mulliner’s designers to seize the opportunity to create a theme that not only blends the design of the Bacalar and Batur but includes the usability of a convertible. The designers also chose to highlight the two-seater character with a ‘wraparound’ cockpit inspired by the design of the Bacalar.<br/><br/>The dramatic ‘airbridge’ behind the seats and tapered cowls at the rear hark back to the barchetta sports cars of old, whilst underlining the promise of a dynamic, driver-focused adventure in a cosseting, cocooned environment. The airbridge and tapered cowls are not only aesthetic, but also provide a semi-enclosed luggage compartment behind the two front seats.<br/><br/>The convertible roof delivers an aesthetic of beauty as a modern, tactile alternative to a hardtop roof. A combination of insulation material, sealing system refinements and acoustic treatments create a cossetting environment in a system which can be deployed or stowed in just 19 seconds, with the car travelling at speeds of up to 30 mph (50 km/h), transforming the car from a luxurious coupe into an open-top Grand Tourer at the touch of a button.<br/><br/>Personal and uniquely commisioned<br/>Mulliner’s in-house design team will help co-create every Batur Convertible with its customer, working together through a specially created Mulliner visualiser that allows any part of the car to be customised in colour and surface finish. Endless samples of unique materials bring texture to the process, and the resulting designs will be truly individual and created by the customer – limited only by their imagination.<br/><br/>Customers will be able to specify the colour and finish of practically every surface of the Batur Convertible, to create a car as individual as they are. Beyond the exterior form of the car lies an almost endless array of choices for each car’s future owner to make.

A British family was left 'terrified' after being circled by a shark just off a beach at a popular holiday resort in Spain.<br/><br/>Holidaymaker Jessica Kenny, 27, was paddling in the sea at Playa Arenal d'en Castell, Menorca, with her four-year-old son when she spotted a shark that came 'zig-zagging' toward them. <br/><br/>She quickly realized it was following her dad, Darren, 57, who was swimming ahead toward some buoys, on Monday.<br/><br/>Passers-by began screaming and calling for the lifeguard - who dialed for backup and put the red flags out.<br/><br/>Children were hurriedly evacuated from the sea, but others were allowed to come close enough to video the shark.<br/><br/>Jessica, a GP receptionist from Liverpool, said: 'I was only up to my waist with my little boy - while my dad had swam ahead.<br/><br/>'We were laughing and joking because it was cold.<br/><br/>'Then we saw a weird thing sticking out the water - we were joking around, saying it must be a shark.<br/><br/>'But we didn't believe it.<br/><br/>'It was quite strange, zig-zagging around us.<br/><br/>'As it came closer, we realized the thing sticking out of the water was a fin.<br/><br/>'We were like, 'Oh my god - that's a shark'.'<br/><br/>The mum-of-two ran out of the water with her son - while others on the beach laughed.<br/><br/>But Jessica realized the shark - believed to be a blue shark - was heading towards Darren, who'd started swimming back to the beach.<br/><br/>She said: 'We'd lost sight of it after we turned around.<br/><br/>'But we saw it was following my dad back to the beach. It was circling him - but it wasn't going for him if that makes sense.<br/><br/>'Honestly, it was so scary, but my dad loves everything to do with the sea.<br/><br/>'When we were back on the beach, he was so excited.'<br/><br/>Jessica and Darren tried to calm her son down - who was 'a bit upset and worried' after the ordeal.<br/><br/>'My dad told him how lucky he was to have seen a shark at four years old,' she added. 'In all his 57 years, he'd never seen one.<br/><br/>'They decided to name it Freddie.'<br/><br/>The family left the beach at 4:35 pm, an hour after the shark was first spotted - and the lifeguards were still trying to chase it out.<br/><br/>Darren, a lorry driver, said: 'It was such a surreal experience.<br/><br/>'I've always wanted to see a shark - even going snorkeling in Jamaica and Cuba just so I could spot one.<br/><br/>'I can't believe I swam with one in Menorca, with my daughter and grandson.'<br/><br/>The shark sighting is believed to be the first so far this year near a Costa beach.<br/><br/>A shark was spotted on the same beach in June 2018 when swimmers were also banned from entering the water for the entire afternoon. <br/>

A man living in his car claims he is being forced to choose between his beloved dogs and a permanent roof over his head.<br/><br/>Paul Growns became homeless in January 2022 and, despite working a full-time job, is still living out his car with his pets more than two years later.<br/><br/>Paul, who was born and raised in Maidstone, Kent, says he has not been offered temporary accommodation because the council say he is not in priority need—and almost all private temporary accommodation has a no pet-policy.<br/><br/>The 45-year-old says his two dogs, Max and Toby, are his lifeline and he is not prepared to re-home them or put them down just to get a permanent roof over his head.<br/><br/>He said: “Being an animal lover, you can’t separate yourself from your animals because they’re family and they’re like your children while your homeless, because if you didn’t have them, you’ve got no-one.<br/><br/>“Places don’t accept pets, so you have a choice you either stay homeless or re-home your pets.”<br/><br/>Paul is now urging more landlords and private providers to accept pets.<br/><br/>Maidstone Council said it has instructed its independent reviewer to consider Mr Growns’ request to overturn the decision to find him a non-priority and is “awaiting the outcome”.<br/><br/>The spokesperson also said the council is working with him and others to identify a suitable housing solution - however Paul says he does not feel supported at all.<br/><br/>He added: “I’ve been looking everywhere for an animal friendly place to stay.\
