RFA Stirling Castle is welcomed into the fleet at Leith<br/><br/>State-of-the-art Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship, RFA Stirling Castle, will be welcomed into the Naval Fleet on Thursday, April 11, during a Service of Dedication at Forth Ports in Leith.<br/><br/>The 6,000-tonne vessel will be at the forefront of supporting the next generation of the Royal Navy’s mine countermeasures capability.<br/><br/>Last year the vessel, which began life as MV Island Crown, underwent conversion at<br/>HM Naval Base Devonport, allowing her to operate as a “mother ship” for the Royal<br/><br/>Navy’s new autonomous mine countermeasures systems experts based at HM Naval Base Clyde.<br/>Military personnel, dignitaries and civilian leaders will join members of the Royal FleetAuxiliary at the dedication service, with RFA <br/> Stirling Castle being the latest vessel to<br/>join the fleet of 11 platforms that provide support to Royal Navy ships all over the<br/>world.<br/><br/>The service will be held in the presence of guest of honour, HRH the Duke of Edinburgh, in his role as Commodore-in-Chief of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.<br/><br/>RFA Stirling Castle and her crew will work closely with Zulu Squadron of the Mine and Threat Exploitation Group (MTXG), who are trailblazing advances in technology to keep pace with the rapidly evolving threat from naval mines. They employ a full suite of Autonomous Surface Vessels (ASVs) and Uncrewed Underwater Vehicles (UUVs) which can be operated remotely using a portable command centre on land or onboard Stirling Castle.<br/><br/>Stirling Castle will replace traditional mine countermeasures vessels, exploiting a series of uncrewed devices which include, not only MTXG, but also the joint French-UK Maritime Mine Counter Measures (MMCM) system, the Combined Influence Sweep (SWEEP) system and Medium Underwater Autonomous Vehicles (MAUVs).<br/><br/>Following the Service of Dedication, the vessel and her crew of civilian sailors look forward to returning to Clyde to work with MTXG on more trials designed to understand how the technology can be used to enhance operations in and around the UK.

Video shows a 'poltergeist' - apparently knocking over drinks in one of Britain's most haunted pubs.<br/><br/>CCTV in Cornwall's Jamaica Inn is said to feature its resident spook Jack - a sailor murdered on nearby moorland over a century ago.<br/><br/>His poltergeist is said to haunt the famous boozer - with new video showing a drink being tipped over.<br/><br/>The video features in the third episode of Weird Britain broadcast as the second part of a double bill on Wednesday (April 10) at 11pm on BLAZE (Freeview channel 64).<br/><br/>Pub manager Katy Marriott: “We are very well known for our ghostly goings-on. We have Jack, who resides in the bar. He is quite a mischievous ghost.<br/><br/>''Jack was supposed to be a sailor, and the story goes that he was taken out on to the moors and murdered.''<br/><br/>Jamaica Inn’s paranormal prankster Jack is alleged to move drinks, and he is frequently blamed for spilled pints and smashed glasses.<br/><br/>But recently the CCTV cameras in the bar have caught him in the act, knocking a drinker’s beverage flying from the table.<br/><br/>Katy said: “They were sat at one of the tables in the main bar, very close to where Jack is supposed to sit.<br/><br/>“I have definitely experienced things here that I cannot explain.”<br/><br/>Local legend says that the ghost of Jack has been wandering the ancient inn and nearby moors for well over a century.<br/><br/>Jamaica Inn’s paranormal manager Karin Beasant said: “A lovely barmaid called April, it was a Sunday night, round about half past ten, she was doing the cleaning, as you can see from the footage. <br/><br/>''You see her turn her head because she hears the bar door open but no one enters. <br/><br/>''There was no one left in the bar, and then from another angle, you see the phone that’s on the wall lift up and fly across and drop. <br/><br/>''That scared her… but the staff are so used to things like this. I look at it this way, it’s his idea of fun, of a jest.”<br/><br/>Host of new show Weird Britain, Andy McGrath said “For all we know, these spirits are watching us every day, they’ve picked up on the technology and Jack’s saying ‘April, I just called to say I love you!’”<br/><br/>Edd Francis and Paul Cowmeadow of the Weird Britain Paranormal Research Team have certified the historic hotel as a haunted location.<br/><br/>Edd said: “The rich history and multitude of witnesses to paranormal activity at this site going back many, many decades is already compelling enough, but for many believers this new footage really will be the cherry on the cake.”<br/><br/>Paul added: “The footage certainly is very interesting. With such a stunningly preserved old inn, in such a beautiful part of the world, with all the promise of meeting Jack, I can see why the Jamaica Inn is such a popular and loved place, and would thoroughly recommend a visit.”
