Recently I had the chance to go off the well beaten paths of Yosemite and hike to the Diving Board, an area near the base of Half Dome's 2000 foot face. Although there is a use trail and rock cairns that mark most of the route it's difficult to navigate for the first time. It's also incredibly steep, gaining 1500 feet of elevation in just half a mile at one point. It's one of the most difficult hikes I've ever done, but the view of Half Dome more than enough reward.
