Description: In 1673, British explorers reported seeing an isolated mountain ridge characterized by unique topography, an enclosed natural watershed, and glorious natural beauty. This ridge, which later become known as Bays Mountain, was soon recognized by settlers as a pristine collection of pure natural resources and a diverse array of natural habitats.
