Description: The East gate of the Shwedagon Pagoda is by far my favorite. Surrounding this gate is the neighborhood known as 'Bahan Zay'; a bustling, thriving community of monasteries, shops and apartment flats. As the sun drops the market here comes alive, and here you can buy everything- watermelon, fresh fish, 2-ton bronze statues of Buddha, human hair, kababs, Mr. Bean DVDs, monk's robes, golden coconuts, and chicken feet. I like to think of it as the Burmese version of Harry Potter's Diagon Alley.
